- Have your name placed on the agenda, or raise your hand and wait to be recognized.
- The President will recognize the member.
- State your motion beginning with, "I move that ..."
- Another member may second the motion without waiting to be recognized.
- All motions should be submitted in writing to the Secretary' to ensure accuracy.
- Always put your motion in writing.
- Be succinct: Think first about what is you want done and then state it simply
- Be specific, but not detailed. The Board should be making policy decisions.
- Consult Board members about their opinions, especially those who might disagree.
- Be honest: Avoid hidden agendas and Trojan horses.
- Ask the Procedures Chair for assistance if you need it.
- Main motion may be amended by striking out, by inserting, by dividing the motion into two motions or by substituting. Motions may also be referred to a committee or discussion postponed to a later time.
- after being recognized, start by saying, "I move to amend the motion by ..."
- he amendment must be seconded and opened for discussion.
- An amendment of the amendment can be made, seconded, and opened for discussion
- No additional amendments can be allowed.
- Voting on amendments occurs in reverse order the amendment of the amendment first, followed by the amendment, followed by the motion as finally worded.
