114TH Annual Meeting             Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale

New Haven, Connecticut

April 13, 2005

Call to order and welcome            President Christine Bradley called the meeting to order at 8:40 a.m. and welcomed all members attending.

Minutes    The minutes of the Annual Meeting of April 21, 2004 were approved with one correction. The name of the NELA President is John Barrett.

Treasurer’s Report            Treasurer Jan Fisher reported that as of the end of March 2005, the Association’s combined cash and investments totaled $157,644.48 with the investment account valued at $107,726.29 on February 28, 2005.  The final treasurer’s report for FY 2003-2004 was distributed, showing a net income for the year at $854.49.

Presentation of Candidates for CLA Office    Les Kozerowitz, Past President and Nominating Committee Chair was unable to attend the meeting, so the following slate of candidates was presented by Chris Bradley.  Vice President/President-Elect: Tom Geoffino; NELA Representative: Mary Etter; Region 4 Representative: Lauren McLaughlin; Region 5 Representative: Bridget Quinn-Carey.    Sandy Brooks, CLA Procedures Chair explained that although the name of the candidate for NELA Representative should have been previously announced with the other candidates, the membership could waive the requirement and vote her in to office at this time.  The members present unanimously agreed to waive the prior announcement requirement. Additional nominations were called for, none were made.  Also, it was noted that Tracy Ralston is now serving as the Region I Representative.  

Proposed Changes to the By-Laws            It was moved and seconded to incorporate Bylaw changes as proposed in the February issue of Connecticut Libraries.  The changes involve Section 4: Standing Committees, Subsection L: Publicity and Public Awareness.  The wording change provides for more general activities, encompassing all areas of the library profession and expanding the mission of the section. The proposed changes passed unanimously. 

Election of Officers             It was moved, seconded and unanimously voted to approve the proposed slate of Officers of the Association for the terms to begin in July 2005.

Introduction of 2005-2006 Executive Board    Hope Beyer of Naugatuck Valley Community College was introduced as the incoming Chair of the Reference and Adult Services Section.  The candidate for chair of the CLASS section, John Cayer of Fairfield University was also announced. Pending a vote by the section membership, he will serve along with Pam Perl as vice chair.  The Children’s Section will be bringing on a new chair-elect for a year before the current co-chairs step down in 2006.  Anita Barney and Betsy Bray were introduced as the 2006 Conference Co-Chairs, while hearty thanks and congratulations were given to Henry Dutcher and Nancy Wood as Co-Chairs of the 2005 Conference.

Announcements   Kris Jacobi reminded everyone that applications were available for the NELA Emerson Greenaway Award, for distinguished service to libraries in New England.  The next NELA Conference will be October 16 – 18, 2005 in Worcester, Massachusetts. Brochures describing the NELLS Conference were also available. 

Adjournment  It was moved, seconded and voted to adjourn the annual meeting at 9:00 a.m.
